![]() Although you could say this is a bug, CA has stated that this is hard-coded into the game engine and cannot be changed, meaning that it is a feature. If you block in an enemy army against the wall or surround them on all sides, they can still retreat away at a full movement's length through your army. ![]() Area of Control does not matter to retreating armies. This is especially true with cross game bugs. ![]() I have no idea what is the issue with warscape, but every game seems to be released with massive amounts of bugs that may or may not get fixed. *edit: a great way to put it is that battles are now big mosh pits of 1v1s, where previously models can get knocked over, stunned, and blocked, all while hacking away at each other no matter if it’s 1v2or3or4. It removes a lot of situational tactics and emergent gameplay that existed in the previous games. A model does attack, rolls to kill, kills or fails, and the animation plays, completely ignoring allies. This means that 1: models will constantly shift, slide, and jerk around to get in the correct spot to kill each other and 2: most kills are now based on 1v1 stats instead of the situations that the models find themselves in. A lot of the combat is dictated by models locking on to each other and playing an animation. Take a look at 2 units charging each other in Rome 2: when they clash, they'll smush together in one line, some models will glitch out and slide around, then blob out when the spacing scripts kick in. Models are able to smush and clip between each other, meaning that cav can escape dense inf easier and units can run through each other with no consequence. Here is a classic video from ages ago that explains this a lot more, but here is a list of broken/bad mechanics that people commonly take issue with I'll update with edits if people add on or if I think of more: Imagine choreographed, mo-capped, kill animations instead.Īlthough this (kind of) worked for Empire and was acceptable for Shogun 2, it really showed its issues with Rome 2. ![]() The warscape engine was introduced with Empire and was built around musket combat and 1v1 combat animations.
